Endangered Instrument Scholarship Scheme

We are delighted to announce that MAPAS is introducing a new subsidy scholarship scheme for students who would like to learn an orchestral instrument on our Endangered Instrument Program. Any pupil who would like to have lessons on one of these instruments will automatically receive a 50% reduction in the lesson price for a one-to-one 20-minute lesson for two years, meaning a weekly lesson will cost just £5.75 per week.

This Scholarship is available on the following instruments:

Double Bass – Monday, Wednesday and Thursday

Cello – Monday, Wednesday and Thursday

Tuba - Wednesday

Euphonium - Wednesday

French Horn - Monday

Bassoon - Monday

Oboe - Monday

Glockenspiel / tuned percussion - Monday

Criteria for Scholarship: The scholarship is open to pupils aged between 8-14 years and the funding is ringfenced for a maximum of three pupils per instrument family and lasts for two years. The tuition will take place at our MAPAS Centre at Moorside High School, Swinton on a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evening or Saturday morning and is subject to tutor availability. Pupils on the scholarship scheme must attend a suitable MAPAS Centre Ensemble when they have reached the appropriate standard.

To take advantage of this offer, please apply for lessons via the MAPAS website: click the link below, select locations - MAPAS Centre (Lessons-after-school) and select one of the above instruments from the instrument drop down box. Once you have completed sign up, you  will receive an application form to be evaluated for the Scholarship Program which will be assessed on musical interests.

In addition to subsidizing the cost of lessons, MAPAS students can loan an instrument from our service completely free of charge. You can note on your application whether you will require an instrument loan or not. We hope you take advantage of this offer – we can’t wait to hear your talents grow!
